How to Use Pomade in Any Hair Type (Properly)
When it comes to hair products, it's hard to figure out how much is the right amount of product. With hair products you need to use the right amount, if you use too much you might end up with greasy hair that feels heavy. If you don’t use enough, you’ll think the product doesn’t work and needs to be thrown away. With hair products more is not always better—using more shampoo won’t get your hair cleaner, but using the right amount will clean your hair and save you money!
Pomades are not the exception. Pomades are great for styling your hair, controlling frizz, give your hair shine and, if you’re using our Glacial Clay Pomade, you can even improve the health of your hair. However, you must know the right amount to use to achieve the desired style. So how should you use a pomade properly? We give you our favorite tips.
How to use a Pomade
By now you should know what a pomade is, but if you need a refresher you can check out our guide to understanding pomades. To recap, pomades can be oil-based, water-based, or wax-based each type provide a different hold and finish. There are also pros and cons to each kind of pomade which you should consider before purchasing your next pomade.
Our Glacial Clay Pomade is great because you can build up the hold from light to medium and will end up with naturally shiny hair. Our pomade is also made from high quality natural ingredient that enhance the health of hair while styling it. Here are our six quick steps to use our Glacial Clay Pomade to get the best results.
-
Start with a pea-sized amount or pinky fingernail amount. This is important. If you take too much you might have clumps of product in your hair and that will not give you an even style. Remember, pomades are always better to layer into the hair slowly, so start with a little and add more as you go.
-
Warm up the product. No, we don’t want you to put it in the microwave. Evenly spread and emulsify the pomade to the palm of the hands to give the product a little heat, making it easier to disperse through the hair. Spread the product to your fingertips and start running your fingers through your hair.
-
Rub the product through all your hair including the roots. When we apply hair products we tend to over apply to the front of our hair because that the part of the hair we see in the mirror, but don’t forget the back! Pro tip: start applying the pomade from the back towards the front of your head to achieve an even coating of the hair.
-
Use a comb or hair styling tool of your choice. Comb the hair and set it in place.
-
Layer in more product if needed. This step can be done before combing but it best to style the hair and see if you need more product. Remember, always start with a pea-sized amount, warm up the product and then apply. Layering product will make sure you don’t overdo it.
-
Add heat. You don’t have to apply pomade on wet hair but if you do, this is a good time to dry the hair. If you started with dry hair, you can always use a little heat to lock in your still and increase the longevity of hold. A little heat can also add an effortless bounce to your hairstyle if that’s what you’re looking for.
